Help Start Education Foundation (HSEF), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, provides computers to BYU-Pathway students and other Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints education programs in underdeveloped areas where the cost of education is beyond their economic reach.

As we expand our donation base, we can benefit more students.

Computers enable access to online courses

With tax-deductible donated funds, students from across many Pacific islands, West Africa, and the Philippines are receiving computers to work on and complete their online BYU Pathway certificates and degrees from universities such as BYU-Idaho in addition to other Church-related education programs.

John Wilson

International Area Director at BYU-Pathway Worldwide

Excerpts from John Wilson’s letter:

“My name is John Wilson, and I serve as the International Area Director of BYU-Pathway Worldwide. This letter serves to express my support of the Help Start Education Foundation.

“For our international students, technology constraints, such as having no access to a computer, are among the top roadblocks to students enrolling and completing their certificates and degrees. BYU-Pathway’s efforts to enroll and retain students worldwide are significantly helped by HSEF providing computers to these economically challenged students.

“The top three geographical areas of growth for BYU-Pathway include Africa, the Philippines, and the Pacific Islands—areas supported by HSEF donations. Since being founded in November 2020 by Brent Evans, Tony Pearce, and Jim Cannon, HSEF has donated over 3,100 computers. They work with Dennis Lifferth of TechCharities to obtain laptops from corporations and school districts. These are refurbished and sent to students in the Pacific Islands. In Western Africa, HSEF is now acquiring refurbished laptops from local vendors.”
