New Initiatives
SUCCEED IN SCHOOL
• The Succeed in School program helps youth ages 12-16 advance in reading, writing, and math education through after-school programs.
• Older youth ages 17-18 also need assistance to pass national exams and to achieve needed reading skills for missions and adulthood.
• With collaboration from the Welfare and Self-Reliance Department, 150 Ghanaian and Nigerian youth have received training grants, but these grants do not pay for laptops.
• The Seminaries and Institutes of Religion Department has initially requested 50-60 computers from HSEF to aid students.
YSA COMPUTER GATHERING PLACES
• Under the direction of the Africa West Area Presidency, the Church is establishing computer labs at Gathering Places in stake centers in West Africa to support student access to computer technology for their educational needs.
• Centralized labs facilitate management, security, maintenance, and technical support.
• Labs encourage communities, students, and their families to learn and socialize together.
• Labs can also provide a resource for Family History research.
• HSEF has been asked to supply additional computers to increase lab capacity.
